How it works

  1. Activate Woe Strider by sacrificing Wakandan Royal Guard.
  2. When Wakandan Royal Guard dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  3. When Wakandan Royal Guard enters, it triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
  4. Resolve the Woe Strider ability.
  5. Repeat.

This elegant loop relies on Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn's twilight face—Isilu, Carrier of Twilight—to grant persist to your nontoken creatures, allowing Woe Strider to repeatedly sacrifice Wakandan Royal Guard for endless scry triggers and graveyard utility. Every time Wakandan Royal Guard returns from the graveyard with a -1/-1 counter, its own entry trigger places a +1/+1 counter on itself, which immediately cancels out the -1/-1 counter via state-based actions and primes the guard to persist all over again. Meanwhile, the front face of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn helps weave your creature spells together using convoke, ensuring your battlefield remains densely populated while this engine churns through your deck.
