How it works

  1. Activate Woe Strider by sacrificing Bifur.
  2. When Bifur dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  3. When Bifur enters, it triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
  4. Resolve the Woe Strider ability.
  5. Repeat.

This loop is driven by the dynamic between Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight and Woe Strider, which together create a perpetual cycle of sacrifice and rebirth. While the front face gives your creature spells convoke, it is the backside—Isilu—that grants your other nontoken creatures persist, ensuring that when Woe Strider sacrifices Bifur, Melodic Rider, Bifur returns to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter. Enter Bifur, Melodic Rider, whose entry trigger places a +1/+1 counter on it; thanks to state-based actions, that +1/+1 counter immediately annihilates the -1/+1 counter, clearing the slate so the persist trigger can work again on the next sacrifice. To make this engine sing even louder, Bifur, Melodic Rider also brings its storied ability to the table, and once you have an enduring story active, its entry trigger doubles to spread even more counters across your board.
