How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Vigean Graftmage.
2. When Vigean Graftmage dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to its replacement effect.
3. Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
4. Repeat.

This intricate loop relies on the constant recycling of Vigean Graftmage, which enters the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters thanks to graft 2, perfectly positioned to absorb and neutralize the -1/+1 counter from its own persist ability granted by Isilu, Carrier of Twilight (the back face of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn). By feeding Vigean Graftmage to Shilgengar, Sire of Famine, you trigger the Sire's sacrifice ability to manufacture Blood tokens while simultaneously sending the Graftmage to the graveyard to be immediately brought back by its neutralized persist trigger. Once you have accumulated enough resources, Shilgengar's massive mass-reanimation ability can be activated by sacrificing six of those Blood tokens, bringing back an entire graveyard of threats to overwhelm the board.
